Atlas VPN Security

85%

VPNs are continually stepping up their security and privacy software to counter the growing number of threats that infringe upon user privacy. Since Atlas VPN is a new service, its up-to-date software comes complete with the best security and privacy features.

First of all, users of both the free and premium versions can enjoy internet connections that are secured by AES-256 bit encryption with SHA-384 for authentication and BLAKE2s for hashing. All of these factors combine to ensure that your internet traffic is secured, hidden from third parties, and not tampered with while in transit.

As well as the above, Atlas VPN only offers the highest standard of VPN protocols. These include IKEv2/IPSec and WireGuard. Both of these protocols help to protect your data yet also provide fast speeds. Although Atlas VPN doesn't employ the OpenVPN protocol, it makes up for this by offering two other great tunneling protocol options.

The security features don't stop there. Atlas VPN comes with IPv6 leak protection, protecting against both IPv4 and IPv6 data leaks. As well as this, there is DNS leak protection; overall, your actual IP address and your DNS requests won't be exposed with Atlas VPN thanks to these excellent features.

Hackers aren't the only threats to your digital privacy. Trackers collecting data about your online movements can also prove to be dangerous and result in targeted ads appearing on your screen. Fortunately, Atlas VPN comes with built-in tracker protection as well as blocking access to malicious websites. Ad and malware protection ensures you don't fall foul to phishing scams or encounter viruses on dangerous sites.

Other privacy and security features include a kill switch that cuts off your internet access if your connection to one of Atlas VPN's servers drops. As well as this, there is an innovative feature called SafeSwap. SafeSwap helps users better mask their real IP address and location by continually switching IP addresses during a session without having to change servers.

A no-logs policy is also in place to reassure users that their private data is safe. This means that no data that could be traced back to individual users is stored by the VPN service. Your IP address, browsing data, and DNS requests won't be shared or held by Atlas VPN at any point during your VPN usage. If you don't want to take Atlas VPN's word for it, you can trust Versprite, which has carried out an independent security audit of the VPN's service and reaffirms all the privacy claims made by Atlas.

Speaking of protecting user data, Atlas VPN has another great tool which is the data breach monitor feature. What this does is take your personal data, such as your email address, and check whether any accounts linked to this email address have been involved in an online data breach. Atlas VPN will then alert you if you have been affected by security breaches so that you can take the appropriate steps to secure your online accounts and information.

Overall, Atlas VPN offers an array of impressive security and privacy features. Considering that the VPN service is relatively new, it is great to see that the service rivals many big players in the VPN market.

Atlas VPN Features

More often than not, there are two types of people who use VPN services; those who are looking for more privacy online and those who want to get past internet restrictions. Additional VPN features aid users in enjoying more internet freedom and possibilities on the web. Fortunately, Atlas VPN has plenty of extra features on offer.

Firstly, Atlas VPN has a decent-sized server network with more than 750 VPN servers spread across 40 locations around the world. While this isn't the most extensive server network on the market, there is excellent international coverage with servers in the US, the UK, and Japan.

The server network provides users with access to plenty of foreign IP addresses, which is great news if you want to unblock streaming services or other geo-restricted websites. Atlas VPN claims to unblock streaming platforms such as BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, and Hot Star.

As well as the above, you can change your location on social networking apps and sites, including Twitter, Instagram, and Tinder. Wherever in the world, you want to appear, you can achieve it with Atlas VPN.

Not only is Atlas VPN great for streaming, but it also supports torrenting. You can access P2P platforms and securely file share with other internet users thanks to Atlas VPN not only supporting this activity but providing security for it as well.

Thanks to the provider's unlimited simultaneous connections, you can use the VPN on as many devices as you wish. There is support for the most widely-used operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. This means you can install Atlas VPN on almost all of your devices, assuming they run on compatible software.

The dedicated Atlas VPN mobile apps and desktop clients have been designed with users in mind and are super intuitive and easy to navigate. There are some great features on the app itself, including the Connect button, which quickly connects you to the best location, based on where you are currently based. With Atlas VPN, fast speeds and a smooth connection are always guaranteed.

Depending on your budget, you can either opt for the free or premium version. With the premium version, you can expect access to more features, including all premium servers and added security features like the data breach monitor. However, the free version is a great tool and comes with access to several free servers and unlimited data.

How Much Does Atlas VPN Cost?

The Atlas VPN mission is simple: to provide individuals with advanced privacy and security online without discriminating against those who can’t afford to spend a lot. For this reason, there are premium and free VPN plans. Fortunately, even if you opt for the paid version, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Here are the different subscription plans on offer:

It is worth mentioning that the annual plan is solely a first-year price. Upon renewing the year-long plan, you may have to pay a higher rate to continue the subscription, and this is subject to change at any point.

What Payment Methods Does Atlas VPN Accept?

There are various payment options on offer with Atlas VPN, making it an excellent option for users who don’t want to be limited by just one option. Atlas VPN accepts the following forms of payment:

Unfortunately, the VPN service does not currently accept any form of cryptocurrency. This makes it a less attractive option for users who are getting into crypto and looking for a more anonymous way of making online purchases. However, given the increasing popularity of cryptocurrency, we believe that Atlas VPN will add various forms of digital payment options within the next few years.

Does Atlas VPN Have a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee?

Like most VPNs, Atlas VPN offers a month-long refund period. The 30-day money-back guarantee asserts that if users are not satisfied with the VPN, they can claim a full refund before the end of the month.

Of course, if users aren’t satisfied with the VPN and its services, Atlas VPN will endeavor to resolve the issue before providing a refund.

It is important to note that you won’t be entitled to a refund if you purchase the VPN through a third-party reseller, such as the App Store.

What Does the Atlas VPN Free Version Offer?

One of the most appealing aspects of Atlas VPN is the fact that it offers a free version. The service is arguably one of the best free VPN services on the current market since it doesn’t come with considerable limitations like many other free VPNs. With the free version of Atlas VPN, users get access to:

So, how does Atlas VPN’s free service compare to the free versions offered by other VPN providers? We’d argue that it is one of the best we have seen in recent years. Although ProtonVPN has a great free VPN, due to the lack of data caps, it limits users to one device connection. Hotspot Shield’s free VPN is similarly limiting, with a daily data cap that only allows users to send a few encrypted emails.

Simply put, if you’re looking for the best free VPN of 2024, then Atlas VPN is a great option.

Is Atlas VPN Legit?

Whenever the words ‘free VPN’ are mentioned, internet users tend to be a little skeptical. This is because many free VPNs are known for lax security measures and for not providing the best service. Some bad actors even hide behind fraudulent free VPN services to commit malicious online acts.

Fortunately, Atlas VPN is neither of the above. Atlas VPN is a legitimate VPN service and is a member of the Nord Security group. Nord Security is the company behind NordVPN, NordLocker, and the many other cybersecurity solutions associated with the name ‘Nord.’

Given Atlas VPN’s association with one of the best VPN solutions in the industry, it is safe to say that the VPN company is as legit as they come.

Is Your Data Secure with Atlas VPN?

Data harvesting is becoming a serious issue, with all internet users at risk of having their personal information stored and potentially shared on the internet. Although Atlas VPN encrypts users’ data, hiding it from third parties such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and websites, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the VPN itself isn’t monitoring the data. So, is Atlas VPN safe for users who are entrusting their internet traffic to the service?

To check whether or not user data is really secure with the provider, we checked out the Privacy Policy on Atlas VPN’s website. Atlas VPN’s Privacy Policy is clear and states the following:

“We are no-logs VPN: we do not collect your real IP address, and we do not store any information that identifies what you browse, view, or do online via that VPN connection. The only information collected is basic analytics, to ensure great service to all our users. This also means that we do not have any data to share with law enforcement and government agencies who make requests for information about what you were doing through a VPN connection.”

It seems that, in terms of user privacy, Atlas VPN respects its customers’ data. On top of this, the VPN service has been independently audited, which is another reassuring sign for users that their data is secure.

Of course, as touched upon in the Privacy Policy, Atlas VPN carries out minimal data logging for analytic and account management purposes. While this is normal, if you are uncomfortable with the VPN service storing your data, you can reach out to Atlas VPN’s customer support and ask the team to delete stored information. What’s more, upon account deletion, your data will be automatically removed from the VPN’s server network.

Does Atlas VPN Have a Kill Switch?

Atlas VPN does indeed have a kill switch! An internet kill switch is an extremely important tool, and we are hesitant to recommend a VPN service that doesn’t offer one. While testing Atlas VPN, the kill switch actually sprang into action, and we were immediately disconnected from the internet due to our server connection dropping.

No VPN software is perfect, and server disconnections can occur for a number of reasons, including network connectivity issues and large server loads. This is why a kill switch that actually works is incredibly important.

Does Atlas VPN Unblock Netflix?

VPNs are popular solutions for unblocking streaming services since they enable users to change their IP addresses and trick streaming sites into believing they are based elsewhere. Netflix is the most popular streaming site that users want to unblock.

While Atlas VPN can unblock many popular streaming sites, including BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, YouTube, and Hot Star. Best of all, it can provide access to several of Netflix’s foreign libraries. These include:

We tested out Atlas VPN’s unblocking abilities when connected to one of Atlas VPN’s US servers; we were able to bypass Netflix’s VPN firewall.

This is great news, especially given that Atlas VPN can achieve the difficult task of bypassing geo-blocks on BBC iPlayer. If you’re looking for a good streaming VPN, Atlas VPN is an excellent choice; you’ll be able able to unblock plenty of foreign Netflix libraries as well as enjoy content on Amazon Prime Video, iPlayer, and many more streaming sites.

Can You Torrent with Atlas VPN?

If you torrent, you should already be using a VPN. There are many risks that come with torrenting on P2P networking platforms, including revealing your real IP address, exposing your activity to third parties like your ISP, and enduring bandwidth throttling due to the nature of your internet activity.

Fortunately, Atlas VPN states on its website that it supports torrenting and can be used concurrently with platforms such as BitTorrent. With advanced encryption and tunneling protocols, as well as fast speeds on the premium version, Atlas VPN is a great option for users who might be sharing copyrighted or large media files and need extra privacy and fast speeds for quick downloads.

What Devices Does Atlas VPN Support?

You can use the Atlas VPN app on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. Whether you are an Android or iOS user, the Android app and iOS app are extremely easy to use and allow users to quickly connect to a server either via the connect button or by searching through the server list.

The Windows and Mac clients are also user-friendly and lightweight to ensure that they don’t take up a lot of storage space and slow down the system performance.

Unfortunately, Atlas VPN does not yet support Linux or other operating systems at the time of writing. Given that it comes with no device connection limits, we assume that support for other systems will be rolled out shortly.

Does Atlas VPN Work on Firestick?

Atlas VPN supports Android-based devices. Therefore, its Android app should work on Firestick. However, it seems that the VPN service has not yet made its apps available for download from the Firestick catalog.

If you wish to use the VPN on your Firestick, you may need to use the streaming device on your Windows or Mac computer or manually configure the VPN to your router. In doing so, you’ll not only be able to use the VPN on your Firestick but protect all internet-based devices connected to your home internet network. However, Atlas VPN doesn’t yet support routers or configurations with the OpenVPN protocol.

Is Atlas VPN Fast?

A downside of many great VPN services is that they can slow down your internet connection. This is due to the fact that you are sending your web traffic via an encrypted tunnel to a distant server, which is then being transmitted back to you via the same encrypted server. This means that sometimes, VPN speeds are not so fast.

Fortunately, Atlas VPN provides lightning-fast speeds and stable connections, which bodes well for premium users who want to watch live streams or download large files. We ran a speed test when connected to a US server and enjoyed an average download speed of 35Mbps, which is extremely fast.

Moreover, Atlas VPN uses high-speed protocols. Atlas VPN only offers WireGuard and IKEv2/IPSec; however, both of these are great options for fast speeds.

So, with Atlas VPN’s speeds and unlimited bandwidth, users can enjoy a reliable and speedy internet connection at all times.

Is There Good Customer Support with Atlas VPN?

Excellent customer support is essential with any service your sign up for. Atlas VPN has an extensive help center, which is divided into several sections, including troubleshooting issues and billing help. You can also enter your question or problem in the search bar and find a list of relevant help articles.

If you still need support, you can contact the Atlas VPN team directly. The customer support team is fast at responding and great at helping users resolve any issues they have with the VPN service. So, while there is not yet a live chat option, the email address is a great way to speak to a real member of the support team.
