FastestVPN Security

80%

Any VPN worth using should provide users with excellent security features. Fortunately, FastestVPN offers an abundance of advanced tools and settings to keep its users safe online.

Firstly, there is AES-256 bit encryption to ensure that all your browsing data is hidden from prying third parties such as your Internet Service Provider (ISP), government agencies, and websites collecting information on your online movements.

To ensure that users always have a secure and reliable VPN tunnel, FastestVPN offers a selection of VPN protocols. Users can easily choose their preferred VPN protocol from a selection that includes IKEv2, IPSec, OpenConnect, L2TP, and the OpenVPN protocol over UDP (User Datagram Protocol). Depending on whether you want a faster connection or more security, you can change your VPN protocol.

Like many other VPNs, FastestVPN also provides a VPN kill switch. This ensures that your browsing data is never exposed if the VPN goes down; the kill switch will spring into action and cut off your entire internet connection.

The above features would be enough for many good VPN providers, but FastestVPN doesn't stop there. There is also DNS leak protection to protect from IP or DNS leaks. We also put the VPN through a WebRTC leak test and were pleased to see that no WebRTC leaks occurred.

Other great features include a NAT firewall to protect your device and network from unwanted incoming traffic. On top of this, an ad-blocking feature blocks pop-ups from appearing on your screen. The ad-blocker also offers protection from adware that can be hidden in pop-ups.

Speaking of adware, FastestVPN also comes with built-in malware protection to detect and prevent common malware from infecting your system.

FastestVPN's privacy policy is reassuring, and the VPN provider asserts that it is a zero-logs VPN. This means that it doesn't store any logs relating to VPN use, session data, or your IP address. However, like most VPN services, billing details like email addresses are stored upon signing up for a subscription.

Given the wide variety of security features on offer, it is clear that FastestVPN is dedicated to user privacy and security.

FastestVPN Features

85%

The best VPNs come with plenty of advanced features to ensure that the service doesn't just provide excellent security but also allows users to enjoy a great internet experience.

While FastestVPN has a smaller than average server network, it offers coverage in great locations. The server network is spread across 40+ server locations in over 52 countries, in countries such as the US, the UK, Australia, Japan, Russia, and South Korea.

With FastestVPN, you can easily overcome censorship and geo-restrictions by connecting to one of its servers. For example, if you want to watch US Netflix from abroad, then you can connect to a US server. There is also unlimited server switching with FastestVPN, meaning you can switch between different VPN servers without having to disconnect from one first.

In terms of unblocking popular sites, FastestVPN can bypass geo-blocks on streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. Coupled with fast VPN speeds, FastestVPN is an excellent option for streaming fans.

Each FastestVPN subscription comes with ten simultaneous connections. This is generous, especially given that the average number of simultaneous connections in the VPN industry is five. This means that you can protect most, if not all, of your devices at the same time without having to pay for an additional VPN plan.

In terms of the devices you can use the VPN app on, FastestVPN offers support for over 20+ devices, including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, and even routers. There are also browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox if you want solely in-browser VPN protection.

There is unlimited bandwidth for super-fast speeds on all servers and optimized servers for torrenting. This is great news for fans of P2P sharing, who don't need to suffer exceedingly slow speeds when sharing files online.

The FastestVPN app comes with a few great tools that users can configure. The first is Smart Connect, which lets the app connect you to the best server in terms of speed with just one click. This means you don't need to manually select a server.

Instead of split tunneling, FastestVPN offers a unique version of this feature, called Smart Tunneling. This allows you to select apps that are always routed via a VPN tunnel; this is great to protect your identity and credentials on online banking or email apps that you may access on public wi-fi networks.

How Much Does FastestVPN Cost?

FastestVPN offers several subscription plans, catering to individual users’ needs.

Best of all, when you sign up for one of FastestVPN’s plans, you can get a year of 2TB of Internxt cloud storage for free. This is great for users who aren’t currently using a secure cloud storage service to keep their files safe, and even better that it comes as part of the VPN package.

What Payment Methods Does FastestVPN Accept?

If you’re impressed with FastestVPN’s subscription prices, then you can purchase one of its plans through a variety of payment methods. FastestVPN accepts the following:

It is great to see that FastestVPN accepts cryptocurrency since many other VPNs are still late to the party in this area. Given that VPN use keeps your online activity private, it makes sense that users may want to buy a VPN subscription using Bitcoin or Ethereum so that this purchase cannot be linked back to them.

Does FastestVPN Have a Free Trial?

All of the FastestVPN subscription plans come with a 15-day money-back guarantee. This is half the time of the average 30-day money-back guarantee that most users offer but still gives new users time to try out the service and make sure it is suitable for them.

If you decide to request a refund, your account will immediately be suspended; if you claim a refund after ten days, you will not get the extra five days of the effective free trial. You may also not get a refund if the payment method you chose doesn’t accept refunds, so this is something to bear in mind, especially if you purchase the VPN via the App Store or Google Play.

How Long Has FastestVPN Been Around?

FastestVPN has been around since 2017. Given its relatively recent launch, the VPN has done exceptionally well in garnering a good customer base that is largely impressed with its services. The VPN currently has an Excellent, 4.0 rating on TrustPilot, and is continually updating its features and server network.

Who Owns FastestVPN?

FastestVPN is owned by Fast Technologies Ltd. However, there is not a lot of information about the parent company online.

Where is FastestVPN Based?

FastestVPN is based in the Cayman Islands. While this may not seem especially interesting to a VPN novice, a VPN company’s headquarters is significant. VPN jurisdiction can affect whether or not a company is required to hand over data from its servers to the government.

Fortunately, the Cayman Islands has no mandatory data retention laws. This means that FastestVPN is not required by law to store or share any of its users’ data. Coupled with the fact that FastestVPN operates a no-logging policy and doesn’t monitor or keep any user logs, this is great news for privacy-conscious internet users.

Does Netflix Work with FastestVPN?

One of the main reasons for VPN use is to bypass geo-blocks, and access censored websites in other parts of the world or foreign versions of your favorite sites and streaming services. Netflix detects your IP address and directs you to the local version of its service. However, with a VPN, you can bypass these restrictions easily.

During research for our FastestVPN review, we tested its ability to unblock Netflix. We connected to a dedicated server for streaming in the US and were quickly able to unblock Netflix. Being able to access US Netflix is always a great indication of a VPN’s streaming unblocking ability.

FastestVPN works well with other streaming services, including Disney+. Unfortunately, we were unable to bypass the BBC iPlayer VPN block; however, BBC iPlayer is notorious for its VPN blocking technology which can seek out VPN IP addresses, so this was unsurprising.

Can You Torrent with FastestVPN?

Yes! FastestVPN is arguably one of the best VPNs on the current market for torrenting. Not only is there unlimited bandwidth which allows for as much downloading and uploading of files as you want, but FastestVPN offers torrenting-optimized servers, meaning you can enjoy the best P2P file sharing experience.

As well as the above, FastestVPN promises 99.99% uptime, meaning that you’ll be able to torrent when you want to as there will always be a server available to connect to.

Is FastestVPN Safe?

FastestVPN employs many features to ensure that your data is safe when using the VPN. For example, the provider uses military-grade encryption to hide your data from prying eyes. There are also several secure VPN protocol options to secure the connection.

As well as the above, DNS requests and your actual IP address will remain safe thanks to DNS leak protection. There is also a kill switch to ensure no browsing data is accidentally exposed should the VPN go down.

There is also an ad-blocking feature to ensure that your devices don’t become infected with malware. Overall, we feel that FastestVPN is a safe VPN, given the level of security it offers to users.

Does FastestVPN Log Your Data?

FastestVPN states in its privacy policy that it “does not store any logs, period!” FastestVPN doesn’t keep any of the following information:

FastestVPN also reassures users that, due to being based in the Cayman Islands, it doesn’t legally need to store or hand over any data from its server network. It is worth mentioning that FastestVPN does store email addresses for account setup purposes.

How Many Simultaneous Connections Does FastestVPN Offer?

FastestVPN supports up to ten simultaneous connections which should be more than enough for most users. However, FastestVPN offers the option to add on extra device connections. Each additional connection costs $1.

What Devices Can You Use FastestVPN on?

You can use FastestVPN on around 20+ devices, which is great news for users. There is FastestVPN support for Windows, iOS, Android, Mac, Linux, Amazon Fire Stick TV, Xbox, and home wi-fi routers. By connecting the VPN to the router, you can bypass the device limit and ensure that all operating systems connected to your home network are protected.

There are custom apps for various operating systems, including a desktop app and mobile apps. The Windows app and Mac app have a simple user interface that allows users to easily adjust settings and connect to servers. FastestVPN also has Android and iOS apps for mobile users, which can be downloaded from the appropriate app stores.

Browser extensions are also available for Chrome and Firefox.

Is FastestVPN Actually Fast?

Given the name of the VPN, you’d be forgiven for asking: is FastestVPN actually the fastest VPN on the market? We tested FastestVPN with some speed tests to check how fast it is.

For the first speed test, we connected to a US server and were happily surprised by the download speed which dropped from 30Mbps to 28Mbps. This is a fast download speed, and good enough for streaming and torrenting.

Other speed tests connected to further away servers in Europe and Asia also displayed good speeds. For example, in the UK, we had fast download and upload speeds, and our speed test in Japan also revealed speedy results.

Overall, we’d wager that FastestVPN is consistent when it comes to connection speed, as our speed tests demonstrated.

Is a VPN Connection with this VPN Service Secure?

Yes, your connection will be secure with FastestVPN. Not only is there advanced encryption but there is a range of secure tunneling protocols that users can choose from to ensure their connection is safe, including OpenVPN.

Does FastestVPN Have a Kill Switch if the VPN Connection Drops?

Yes, FastestVPN has an internet kill switch that is available on its apps including its Windows app.

During our testing for this FastestVPN review, our kill switch in the Windows client sprung into action and disconnected us from the internet for a short time after the VPN server went down. This is reassuring, and we are glad to see that the provider doesn’t operate a defunct kill switch.

What is FastestVPN’s Customer Support Like?

FastestVPN is a great example of how to deliver stellar customer support. Firstly, there is a customer support center and knowledge base on the VPN’s website, that is full of FAQs and set-up guides. Here, you can likely find the answer to any question or issue you may have with the VPN and its services.

As well as having a dedicated help section on the FastestVPN website, there is also email support and live chat support. If you have an urgent issue, then live chat support is a great way to get in touch quickly with the customer support team and get an answer then and there.

How Does FastestVPN Compare to Other VPN Services?

Overall, FastestVPN is a first-rate VPN, that definitely holds its own when compared to other popular VPN services. It offers many of the same security and privacy features as popular premium VPNs and even has additional tools such as ad-blocking and smart tunneling.

Better yet, FastestVPN has ten device connections per plan and allows users to add on extra simultaneous connections for $1 each. This is more than what ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and CyberGhost VPN offer, but less than Surfshark’s unlimited simultaneous connections.

The most appealing thing about FastestVPN is its long-term subscription plan prices. These offer some of the best value for money that we have seen in the VPN industry, and are definitely an advantage of the service over other VPNs in the industry.
