ZoogVPN Security

80%

A VPN provider needs to offer advanced security features to help users stay private online. ZoogVPN delivers in this area to help users become anonymous on the internet and protect their browsing data and identity.

First of all, there is military-grade AES-256 bit encryption which is the highest standard of encryption. There is also SHA26 authentication and an RSA-2048 handshake. This means that hackers would have a hard time decrypting your traffic, which ensures your actual IP address and whatever you do under the protection of a VPN connection stays private.

Not only does ZoogVPN use advanced encryption keys, but it offers some of the best VPN protocols; these include OpenVPN UDP/TCP, L2TP/IPSec, and IKEv2. All of these protocols are great in terms of speed and offer a stable and secure connection. OpenVPN is the default protocol on Windows and Mac, while IKEv2 is the default option on Android and iOS.

There is also the option to use the PPTP protocol; however, this doesn't offer the same level of protection as the other protocols, so we recommend avoiding this option unless you want the fastest VPN speeds.

There are additional security features with ZoogVPN, including an internet kill switch. ZoogVPN has private DNS on every one of its servers to offer complete DNS leak protection. This means none of your DNS requests will be exposed, giving away a lot of your browsing information to third parties.

Although ZoogVPN doesn't state that it offers IP leak protection on its website, it does. We ran a test and didn't experience any IP leaks, which means that your actual location and IP will be masked by the new IP address Zoog gives you.

Finally, ZoogVPN claims to be a zero-logs VPN. ZoogVPN states on its website that "we strictly do not collect or keep any usage information on user activity, the websites or apps the user visits, timestamps, user IP addresses, or user log-in/log-out sessions... for the purpose of rendering VPN service we collect total data transferred on our servers as aggregated upload/download."

As well as collecting data usage, ZoogVPN also logs email addresses. However, it openly states on its website that it doesn't give away or sell its users' email addresses. The no-logging policy hasn't yet been audited, but overall it seems that ZoogVPN takes great effort to keep its users safe online.

ZoogVPN Features

ZoogVPN offers plenty of advanced features. First of all, it has 50 VPN server locations across 26 countries. Which it would be great to see a few more servers added to the network, the VPN servers that currently exist are based in optimal locations, including the US, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong.

Even though the server locations are limited, there are many benefits to the servers. The team has handpicked all of ZoogVPN's servers for speed, and there are dedicated servers for many activities, including streaming and torrenting.

Speaking of streaming, ZoogVPN can unblock plenty of geo-restricted services, including Netflix, HBO Now, BBC iPlayer, and YouTube. This means users can access foreign content on their favorite streaming services without any trouble whatsoever, in part thanks to the obfuscation ZoogVPN employs. VPN obfuscation renders VPN use unidentifiable, instead disguising traffic it as regular HTTPS traffic.

ZoogVPN can also provide access to restricted social websites like Facebook, Twitter, Skype, and Viber. If you live in or travel to a country where social networks are blocked, then ZoogVPN is an excellent solution to overcoming these censorship blocks.

While not all of ZoogVPN's servers support torrenting, the majority do, which is good news for fans of file sharing. This ensures users can enjoy advanced online privacy protection while they download files.

On top of the above, ZoogVPN also offers a SOCKS5 proxy; users can tunnel their web traffic through this for faster download speeds, which might be necessary when torrenting.

In the past, users were limited to using the VPN on up to five devices. However, now there are unlimited simultaneous connections available on each premium plan. ZoogVPN supports all operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS, Linux, Android TV, Firestick TV, Apple TV, Chromebook, and some routers.

ZoogVPN also offers dedicated apps, making it easy for users to set up and use the VPN on their devices. Given the lack of device connection limits, this means you can connect the VPN to literally all of your internet-connected devices.

One of the best things about ZoogVPN is that it offers a free version of its service. However, the free plan comes with limits; for example, there is just one device connection, access to 3 VPN server locations, and 128-bit encryption instead of 256-bit encryption. Users also don't get to take advantage of unlimited bandwidth as the premium customers do and instead are limited to 10GB bandwidth.

If you run into any issues while using the service, there is great customer support. Users can speak to customer representatives via live chat support on the website or submit a ticket via the ticket system. As well as this, there are FAQs and a support center that includes resources and a guide on setting up the VPN.

Is ZoogVPN Legit?

ZoogVPN is a 100% legitimate VPN service. The VPN launched in 2013 and is based in Greece; however, it operates offices from across the world. Since the ZoogVPN team is made up of cybersecurity and internet experts, the VPN team has steadily improved the services on offer since the company’s inception.

Is ZoogVPN Free?

ZoogVPN offers a free plan that provides many more benefits than other VPN services and their free plans. With a ZoogVPN free account, users can enjoy the following features:

Although there is access to restricted servers and lower encryption standards, users on the free plan can still enjoy the no-logs policy. Like Hola VPN, many rival free VPN providers don’t protect user data with a no-logging service and instead store and share browsing information and IP addresses.

How Much is ZoogVPN?

Although ZoogVPN offers a relatively decent free version of its VPN, users gain access to all servers and all features if they sign up for one of the VPN’s paid plans. To enjoy all Zoog services, users can choose from a plan below:

Moreover, ZoogVPN offers many sales throughout the year, which means you can get the VPN for even less than the prices above!

Does ZoogVPN Have a Money-Back Guarantee?

ZoogVPN has a 7-day money-back guarantee. This is a lot shorter than the average 30-day money-back guarantee that most VPN services offer.

While we’d like to see a longer money-back guarantee, it makes sense that ZoogVPN doesn’t offer more time since it already enables users to test out its services by using the free VPN. So, if you want to test out ZoogVPN for a longer period of time, we recommend first installing the free service before purchasing a plan.

What Payment Methods Does ZoogVPN Accept?

ZoogVPN offers a lot of different payment options, including:

We recommend purchasing a plan with Bitcoin to enjoy more anonymity since your purchase won’t be directly linked back to your bank account and, therefore, name.

Is ZoogVPN Safe?

ZoogVPN offers plenty of features to keep users safe online. Firstly, there is advanced encryption to hide your data; this keeps users safe, especially on public wi-fi networks, as it hides their data from hackers who may want to steal account credentials.

ZoogVPN also operates a zero-logs policy which keeps users’ safe at all times. This is because ZoogVPN asserts that it doesn’t store or monitor any of its users’ data.

However, it is worth mentioning that ZoogVPN is based in Greece. The VPN provider states that this means it doesn’t follow any data retention laws. However, it is worth noting that Greece collaborates with the 5/9/14 Eyes; therefore, it is worth keeping this in mind if you’re choosing a VPN service based on its jurisdiction.

Does ZoogVPN Have a Kill Switch Feature?

Yes, ZoogVPN has a kill switch. The kill switch, however, is only available on the Windows and Mac client. With the kill switch enabled, users can surf the web safely and know that their internet access will be cut off if the server connection drops.

Does ZoogVPN Unblock Netflix?

ZoogVPN claims on its website that it unblocks a whopping 20 Netflix libraries. This is excellent news for fans of the streaming platform who want to enjoy geo-restricted content on foreign Netflix libraries.

As well as Netflix, ZoogVPN can unblock the following streaming sites:

The free users have limited access to streaming sites but can still unblock foreign versions of YouTube, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, ABC, and NBC. However, this is still better than what most free VPNs offer, as many free VPNs can’t provide users access to streaming sites.

Does ZoogVPN Support Torrenting?

Yes, ZoogVPN does support torrenting on its server network. However, not all of its servers are optimized for torrenting. The servers which are suited for P2P networking are clearly marked to help users set up the best VPN connection when torrenting.

There are many reasons why it is essential to use a VPN when torrenting. Firstly, it hides download data from third parties to protect you and stops throttling from your ISP. As well as this, none of your torrenting data will be logged and linked back to you.

How Fast is ZoogVPN?

ZoogVPN prides itself on offering lightning-fast servers, stating that it cherry-picks servers to ensure that users can enjoy the fastest connection. ZoogVPN also offers a selection of protocols so that users can make their connection faster, such as creating a tunnel with the PPTP protocol. Another way to get fast speeds is to connect to the nearest server geographically.

We ran some speed tests and were pleased to get fast download and upload speeds. On average, our download speed was around 34Mbps, only dropping from a baseline speed of 37Mbps. Although there are many factors that affect a speed test, we believe this is a strong indication of ZoogVPN’s reliability when it comes to fast connections.

How Many Simultaneous Connections Does ZoogVPN Offer?

There are some differing accounts regarding the number of simultaneous connections that ZoogVPN offers. After speaking directly to the support team, we can confirm that ZoogVPN no longer offers five simultaneous connections and now offers unlimited device connections like providers such as Surfshark.

This is great since it means that users no longer have to configure the VPN to their router to protect all of their household devices; instead, they can share the subscription with their entire household so that everyone is protected when surfing the web.

What Devices Does ZoogVPN Support?

ZoogVPN protects all operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and others such as streaming TVs. The iOS app and Android app mean that users can enjoy the VPN on mobile devices as well as other devices that are compatible with iOS and Android.

Users can either install the dedicated ZoogVPN app or manually. If you decide to take the more difficult route and opt for manual configuration, then you can use ZoogVPN’s VPN Setup Wizard. The Setup Wizard guides are available on the ZoogVPN website and are extremely helpful, allowing users to set up the VPN without using the dedicated app.

Unfortunately, there are no browser extensions available with ZoogVPN, which is a shame since many users only want to encrypt the data and use a VPN in their browser.

How to Use ZoogVPN?

Using ZoogVPN is super easy, especially if you opt to use the native apps on your systems. Here is a quick step-by-step guide on how to use ZoogVPN:

Does ZoogVPN Offer Customer Support?

ZoogVPN offers excellent customer support. First of all, there is live chat support on the website, which we tested out. Immediately upon asking a question, we received a reply from a friendly member of the support team.

Not only does ZoogVPN offer live chat, but users can also get in touch with the VPN team by submitting a support ticket. They can then expect a response in their email inbox a few hours later.

Depending on the issue, you may be able to find the answer you’re looking for in the support section of the website. There are also helpful set-up guides and FAQs to help users find all the answers they are looking for.

ZoogVPN Overview

So, is ZoogVPN worth using? Overall, we’d say yes. Not only does it offer affordable VPN plans, but there is also a free version for users who can’t afford to pay. Moreover, ZoogVPN comes with excellent security measures and supports activities like streaming and torrenting.

One of the only downsides of ZoogVPN is its small server network. However, this is entirely changeable and could increase in size over the coming years.
